Friends of Dr. Michael F. Ries, 78, 614 Highland Ave., Brownsville, may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Kietzer Funeral Home, Lomira.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lomira. The Rev. Joseph Safiejko will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Dr. Ries die Friday, March 29, 1985, at his home.
He was born Feb. 3, 1907, in Lomira, a son of Jon and Katherine Beck Ries. He was married to Beatrice D. Frei in July of 1935, and she died on Oct. 25, 1968. On April 17, 1971, he married Margaret Loeffler Frei.
Dr. Ries received his doctor of medicine degree from University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1933. After serving his internship, he joined Dr. Cole in Ripon and later established a family practice in
Fairwater. He moved to Brownsville in 1935 and joined Dr. R. G. Raymond’s practice. After Dr. Raymond retired, he and Dr. L. E. Friedrich became partners. He served the area for 48 years retiring in 1983.
Dr. Ries was a director and vice president of the Valley Bank of Brownsville and director of the Brownsville Community Club. He was a member and past president of the Brownsville Lions Club, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a director of the R.G. Raymond Foundation. He also served on the medical staff of St. Agnes Hospital and Waupun Memorial Hospital. He formerly served as chief of staff at Waupun Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the American Medical Association, a 50-year member of the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association.
Survivors include his wife, three sons, Stanley of Brownsville, Thomas of Berlin and Michael L. of Eau Claire; two daughters, Mrs. Katherine Harden of Livermore, Calif., and Mrs. Paula Gotberg of San Diego, Calif.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Velma Reischle of Philadelphia, Mrs. Carol Cooke of Dayton, Ohio and Mrs. Joanne Summers of Random Lake; two stepsons, Bruce Frei of Venice, Fla., and Warren Frei of Bettendorf, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; four brothers, George of Fond du Lac, Frank and Arnold of Lomira and Lawrence of Brownsville, and one sister, Mrs. Loretta Gronek of Fond du Lac.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
