GEORGE SCHARSCHMIDT
George "Charlie" Scharschmidt, 83, of 428 Church St., Lomira, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 1994, at All About Life Rehabilitation Center.
He was born May 19, 1910, in North Fond du Lac, a son of George and Katharina Pfuhl Scharschmidt. On Nov. 12, 1932, he married Sophia Sue Gruber at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fond du Lac.
Mr. Scharschmidt attended grade school in Fond du Lac and carpenter trade school in Chicago. He was employed as a carpenter and lived with his family until moving to Oakfield in 1946. He owned a general contractor business in Oakfield until retiring in 1976.
Mr. Scharschmidt was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lomira, an honorary member of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, past president of Brownsville Lions Club and was an avid bowler for many years.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Chuck and his wife Bertie of Fond du Lac; two daughters, Lorrie Shimek of Rhinelander, and Kathleen Jo Vollmer and her husband Claude of Fond du Lac; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were one brother, Anthony; and one son-in-law, Gary Shimek.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lomira. The Rev. Steve Stradinger will officiate. Burial will be at Avoca Cemetery, Oakfield.
Visitation is at the church from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
