John Francis Marcin died on January 16, 2019.  He was born John Francis Marcinkowski on August 29, 1933 in Berlin, WI to Celia and Louis Marcinkowski.

John served our country in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953.  He subsequently began his career as a chef at the Milwaukee Athletic Club, his first civilian job.  John moved to Appleton where he worked at Butte des Morts Country Club as head chef before advancing his career to country club manager at Branch River Country Club near Manitowoc.  After three years, he moved to Fond du Lac and became a manager at South Hills Club, which he did for five years before opening Marcin’s Restaurant and Catering.  He subsequently returned to his first love, cooking, and went on to working as a chef at The Gazebo, a position he held for seven years.  John’s next endeavor in food service took him to Chilton where he opened a new restaurant.  The Old Mill was exactly that, an old mill complete with it’s own millpond and giant water wheel.  After three years John took a position with the WI Department of Corrections working as a cook/instructor at Taycheedah Correctional Institution before transferring ten years later to Oshkosh Correctional Institution.  He worked for the state for twelve years before retiring at the ripe age of 75.  In his earliest years John had a deep interest in forestry and conservation.  Over the course of his lifetime John hand-planted over twenty thousand trees.  They will remain as his legacy.

John is survived by his wife Rita and their three children, Sean & Erica (Eichhorn), Cory & Amber (Kiser), and Bridget & Guadalupe Salinas.  Three children from a previous marriage also survive him.  David & Laurie (Kapp), Rebecca and Dan Krebsbach, and Thomas and Candy (Arthurs).  John’s siblings include Mary and the deceased Florence, Joseph, and Anthony.  His grandchildren are: Marlow & Maylee (Sean), Esme, Rowan, & Evelyn (Cory), Noah & Asher (Bridget), Kyle & Ross (Rebecca), and Stephanie (Thomas). John is a proud great grandparent to Ameilya, Prestyn, Mason and Blake.

John will continue to be remembered for his serious work ethic, a character trait that dominated his personality.
