Renewing the Faith

St. Mary and Sons of Zebedee’s high school program students prepare for confirmation through interactive lessons, service, and small group discussions.

Mentoring and Inspiring Teens

High school classes are taught by volunteer catechists, who are witnesses to our Catholic faith. These catechists model our Catholic faith, are in good standing with the Catholic Church, and have passed the Safeguarding God’s Children requirements.

Our high school program is geared towards the Sacrament of Confirmation. Ninth and tenth grade years are pre-requisite years for attending the Confirmation Program. Eleventh grade is the sacramental preparation year for Confirmation. The small discipleship group format allows youth to engage in a variety of discussions and lends an opportunity for their questions to be answered.  The content includes our Catholic identity, discipleship, prayer and worship, and much more. It not only teaches how to live out and practice our faith, but helps them learn how to pray and form a relationship with God.

Additionally, Father Miniatt and guest speakers will join us for some classes. There will also be at least one retreat led by SPIRITUS MINISTRIES (or another similar organization). Additional opportunities for youth nights to grow in their faith include adoration, mission trips/outreach/service projects,  youth bible studies, witness talks, games and activities, youth group, and youth fellowship meals.

Presently, we are looking for volunteers, who are confident in their Catholic faith, to help grow youth disciples! Please pray and consider leading these teenagers on a deeper journey to the way, the truth and the life of Jesus!

Topics Taught by Grade Level

Grade 9

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me’” (John 14:6).

In Chosen year II, we discover that Jesus is …

    • 1. The Way: The pre-catechumenate is a time to remove obstacles to belief (pre-evangelization, Lessons 1 and 2) and present the basic gospel message (evangelization, Lessons 3 to 6). The goal of this phase is conversion of the heart. It provides the framework, or context, for every other lesson.
    • 2. The Truth The catechumenate is the time of formation (Lessons 7 to 17). When the heart discovers who Jesus is and is trained to follow him, the seeds of faith that were planted at Baptism and strengthened through Confirmation will flourish in new life.
    • 3. The Life: Purification and enlightenment are a phase of more intense, interior formation in final preparation for the sacrament and for a life of discipleship (Lessons 18 to 24).

Grade 10

  • Students will be engaged in activities with their sponsors, choosing a saint name and reporting on it, completing the remaining small group sessions in the Decision Point by Dynamic Catholic – Confirmation Preparation Coursework.
  • Small group facilitation
  • Lectio Divina

Grade 11
