Salvation History, Jesus’ Mission & The Church
In St. Mary and Sons of Zebedee’s middle school program, your child will continue growing in their journey through the Catholic Faith. Sixth graders will journey through the Bible and Salvation History and follow the traditional model of catechesis in a classroom setting. Seventh and Eighth graders will engage in a new series, Chosen: Your Journey to Confirmation, which has been divided into a 2 year program. The program includes a series of videos and interactive discussions and activities, which are designed to be both intellectual and spiritual. Unlike the traditional model, this follows a small group discipleship model. The goal of this series is to strengthen their understanding of Catholicism and lead them to encounter Jesus as they continue their Confirmation preparation in high school. Our ultimate goal, of course, it to form disciples.
2023-24 Middle School Religious Education Classes
Our religious education offers a variety of ways for youth to be involved in their faith, as well as, differentiated learning. Our religious education classes for sixth through eighth graders meet twice a month for ninety minutes. Prior to class, we offer a Youth Fellowship Meal. Once a month, a youth night will be offered where teens can get together and talk about their faith, engage in some fun youth group activities, listen to a witness talk, and pray together. A spiritual retreat will also be offered along with opportunities to serve others.

Grade 7-8
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me’” (John 14:6).
In Chosen, we discover that Jesus is …
- 1. The Way: The pre-catechumenate is a time to remove obstacles to belief (pre-evangelization, Lessons 1 and 2) and present the basic gospel message (evangelization, Lessons 3 to 6). The goal of this phase is conversion of the heart. It provides the framework, or context, for every other lesson.
- 2. The Truth The catechumenate is the time of formation (Lessons 7 to 17). When the heart discovers who Jesus is and is trained to follow him, the seeds of faith that were planted at Baptism and strengthened through Confirmation will flourish in new life.
3. The Life: Purification and enlightenment are a phase of more intense, interior formation in final preparation for the sacrament and for a life of discipleship (Lessons 18 to 24).
