MRS. AGNES NILLES

Mrs. Agnes Nilles, 75, of 2570 N 124th St. Wauwatosa, formerly of Fond du Lac, died Monday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee.

She was born March 9, 1900, in Fond du Lac, a daughter of Patrick H. and Catherine Hayden McCarty. She attended St. Mary’ Springs High School and was graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1925.

Mrs. Nilles was employed by the Catholic Welfare Bureau in Milwaukee until 1929. On July 29, 1929, she was married to Albert “Hup” Nilles in Fond du Lac.

From 1924 to 1952, she was a day-camp coordinator for the Milwaukee Girl Scouts. She was a member of the Wauwatosa Women’s Club, Half Century Club of the University of Wisconsin, 20th Century Topic Club, Opus Die Lay Group, Christian Mothers and is listed in Who’s Who in Wisconsin.

Surviving are her widower; a daughter, Mrs. Mary J. Van Cronkite of Wauwatosa; a son, Thomas M. of Chicago; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Harold J. McCarty of Brownsville; and a sister, Mrs. Clarice DeWitt of Oconto.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Schmidt-Bartelt-Gerber Funeral Home, 10121 W. North Ave., Wauwatosa, and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, North 122nd and West Center Streets, Wauwatosa. Burial will follow at noon Thursday at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lomira, where the Rev. John Goebel of Lomira will officiate.

Visitation for Mrs. Nilles will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials to The Carmelite Nuns in Pewaukee would be appreciated.
