A 4-year-old boy became Fond du Lac County's 12th traffic fatality of the year when he was struck by a car at 5 p.m. Sunday on East Johnson Street just west of North National Avenue.

Blaine M. Buerger of Route 1, Brownsville, was rushed to St. Agnes Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He died of head and internal injuries.

County traffic police said the boy had been standing on the south side of the road waiting for an eastbound car to pass. When the car went by, he ran onto the road and was struck by a westbound auto operated by Joseph L. Milliken, Eugene, Ore.

The Buerger family was visiting in the area at the time.

The 12 fatalities this year compare with seven on the same date last year. Six of the 12 persons killed in traffic accidents in the county this year were children 12 years old or under.

Funeral services for Blaine Michael will be held at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Kietzer Funeral Home, Lomira, and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lomira.

The Rev. Ernest Dreher will officiate, and burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Blaine was born Oct. 24, 1968, the son of Michael and Gladys Beck Buerger.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Michelle at home; and his grandparents, Mrs. Erna Beck of rural Campbellsport and Mr. and Mrs. Silverius Buerger of Route 1, Brownsville.
