Obituary
Dorothy Jean (Papenfuss) Zitlow died suddenly on November 28, 2023, at SSM Health at the age of 77.
Dorothy was born on June 22, 1946, to Leo and Gennevive (Woeshnik) Papenfuss in Fond du Lac. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and L.P. Goodrich High School, graduating in 1964. Then she went on to earn her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Marion College in 1968. Later she went on to earn her Master of Arts in Education from Marion College, graduating in 2007. In 1967 she met the love of her life, Kenneth Zitlow. On November 30, 1968, they got married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Dorothy spent the next 48 years teaching various grade levels at Oakfield Elementary, Consolidated Catholic Lomira/ Theresea (CCLT) and St. Matthew's in Campbellsport before finally retiring in 2016.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, puzzles, iPad time, games, and spending time with her children and grandsons.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years, Ken; her children Kevin (Susan) and their sons Derek (special friend Laura and her son Braxton) and Cody (special friend Jade), Lynn (Michael) Zehren and their sons Kyle, Alex, and Douglas; and her great-grandson Haiden Zehren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; sister-in-law Shirley Adelman and brother-in-law Jerome (Virginia) Zitlow; cousins James (Patricia) Papenfuss and Brother Raymond Papenfuss.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her youngest son Daniel, her sister Jacalyn Hettenhaus, her aunt Marion Woeshnik, brother-in-law Joseph Adelman; Aunt Olive and Uncle Leon Vossekuil; plus, many other relatives.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 5, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E Division St, Fond du Lac, with a short memorial service to follow at 4:00 PM. A private burial service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lomira, WI, to follow at a later date.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Balderrama, Dr. Hinkamp, and the staff of the Medical Imaging Department at SSM Health. A special thank you to Dr. Haubenschild for his dedicated attention to our mother during her many procedures.
