Obituary

Hilda J. Hesprich, age 89, of Marion (formerly of Mayville) passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at her home.

The former Hilda Joyce Hayward was born on March 15, 1927 in London, England, the youngest of nine children to James and Elizabeth (Rood) Hayward.  She worked with the British NAAFI (Navy, Army & Air Force Institutes) during WWII as a young lady and that is how she met the love of her life.  Hilda was united in marriage on February 15, 1947 to Raymond J. Hesprich at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira.  After marriage, the couple moved to a dairy farm in Mayville where they raised a family and lived until 1987.  After retirement the couple moved to Yuma, AZ, and settled in Marion in 2003.  Hilda's husband preceded her in death on February 14, 2013.

Hilda is a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mayville, where she sang in the choir and was currently a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marion.  Hilda worked hard on the farm helping out her husband, but she was also employed by some seasonal canning factories in both Mayville and Brownsville for many years.  She liked sewing clothes for her family, singing, and listening to the old record player.  Hilda was often in good spirits and will be remembered most as a truthful and honest person.  Another hobby of Hilda’s for some time was refurbishing dolls for the church that were given to poor children in Mexico.  While living in Yuma she volunteered countless hours at a local hospice.  She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother.

Survivors include seven children, Jim Hesprich of Marion, Joyce (Bill) Webster of Laramie, WY, John (Judie) Hesprich of Horicon, Joe (Lisa) Hesprich of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, Joanne Niemuth of Marion, Jeff Hesprich of Marion, and Jan (Lori) Hesprich of Traverse City, MI.  There are 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.  She is further survived by one sister, Lucy Appleby of England; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives in America and England.  Hilda is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond, a grandson, Gabriel, a son-in-law, Scott Niemuth, six sisters, and one brother.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 23rd at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 699 Milwaukee St., Lomira, WI.  Following the urn burial in the parish cemetery friends and relatives are invited to a reception at the American Legion Hall in Lomira.  The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, assisted the family.
