Jerome L. Champeau, 61, of Tampa, Fla., died Monday, March 4, 1996, in Tampa.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1934, in Sheboygan Falls, a son of Roy and Mae Burns Champeau.  He married Marlene Goeser.  Mr. Champeau was a 1952 graduate of Lomira High School, and a graduate of UW-Oshkosh and Officers Candidate School.  He retired in 1980 as a major in the U. S. Air Force after serving for 23 years.  He was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1963.  He taught at St. Mary’s Spring Academy for two years.

Mr. Champeau was a member of Disabled American Veterans, and Retired Officers Association of Tampa Chapter.  He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was awarded the Bronze Star four times, the Meritorious Services Award with one Oak Cluster, a joint service commendation, and National Defense and Service Medal.

Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Mary Laundrie and her husband Lloyd, and Betty Shandor and her husband Andy, all of Green Bay, and Cathy Calhoun and her husband John of Liburn, Ga.; three brothers, Patrick and his wife Mary of Oakfield, John and his wife Sheila of Minnesota City, Minn., and David of Green Bay; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and a nephew, Joey Shandor.

Services:  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Oakfield.  The Rev. Donald Zerkel will officiate.  Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D. C.  Military rites will be conducted at the church by Bintzler-Waehler American Legion Post No. 347 of Lomira.

Visitation:  From 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Kohls Community Funeral Home in Oakfield.  A vigil service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
