MR. RIES
Funeral services for John Peter Ries, 88, formerly of 291 E. 18th St., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church, Lomira. He died Thursday, Nov. 17, 1983, at St. Agnes Hospital.
The Rev. Joseph Safiejko will officiate, and burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Lomira. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Kietzer Funeral Home, Lomira.
He was born July 3, 1895, in the Town of Lomira, the son of John and Catherine Beck Ries. On July 21, 1921, he married Martha Mayer at St. Peter’s Church, Slinger, and she died in July 1956. He married Helen Ferguson on Nov. 9, 1957, at St. John’s Church, Byron, and she died Oct. 16, 1983.
Mr. Ries was a retired farmer and a World War I veteran. He served with the 344th Infantry Supply Co. in France. He was a member of Bintzler Waehler Unit 347 for 47 years. Mr. Ries lived with his son, Norman, in Lomira.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph and Norman, both of Route 1, Lomira; one sister, Mrs. Edward (Loretta) Gronek of Fond du Lac; one stepson, John Ferguson of Route 2, Lomira; three step-daughters, Mrs. George (Margaret) O’Brien and Mrs. Gene (Rosemary) O’Brien, both of Route 1, Eden, and Mrs. Delphine Johnson of Appleton; five brothers, Frank and Arnold, both of Lomira, George of Fond du Lac, and Dr. Michael and Lawrence, both of Brownsville; 15 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and one grandson.
