Obituary

LAWRENCE JOHN PABLE

On Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, Lawrence John Pable, Sr., 73, passed away peacefully in his home in the arms of Mary, his wife of nearly 50 years, and surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1934, in Fond du Lac, Wis., to Charles G. and Hedwig “Hattie” M. Wirkus Pable.  He attended St. Mary’s Grade School in Fond du Lac and St. Lawrence Seminary High School in Mount Calvary, Wis., graduating in 1952.

He served as president of Young Christian Workers where he met and served with the Vice President Mary A. Gilsdorf of Hilbert, Wis., whom he later married on Sept. 24, 1958, at St. Mary’s in Fond du Lac.

Together, they joined the Christian Family Movement where they were active members for several years.  In 1968, they moved their growing family to Lomira, Wis. where they became members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Larry served the church community as choir director for 28 years, and frequently as lector and cantor at daily Masses, and as a catechist for religious education.  He was instrumental in the consolidation of St. Mary and St. Theresa Catholic Schools and served on their first School Board.  He was also active I the Holy Name Society and served as the Vocations Director of the Knights of Columbus.

He served in the United States Army, where he received training in radio repair and electronics; skills he continued to use at Western Electric before continuing his career as an electronics technician at Giddings and Lewis Machine Toll in Fond du Lac and Kearney and Trecker Machine Tool in Milwaukee.

Larry enjoyed his family, and included them in many of the things he lied to do such as golf, gardening, photography, model trains and planes, and travel, especially with his wife.  He was also a bird enthusiast and an accomplished carpenter.  His love of music, especially classical, was woven into his daily life.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughters Anne (Michael) Henry of Fond du Lac, Rose (Robert) Aguire of Greenville, Therese (Richard) Vinz of Horicon, Clare (Mark) Bokelman of Nekoosa; his sons, Tony (Shannon) of Buford, Ga., Joe (Sherrie) of Kearney, Mo., Larry Jr. (his fiancé Necie Elizabeth Young) of Suwanee, Ga., Steve (Amee) of Neenah and Mike of Phoenix, Ariz.; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  He is further survived by his sisters, Lucille More and Bernice Schneider; his brother, Rev. Martin Pable, OFM Cap.; and nieces and nephews too numerous to count, all of whom he loved and adored.
