MARGARET A GERNENZ
Margaret A. Gernenz, 64, of N5072 Hickory Road in the Town of Fond du Lac died on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at her residence.
Margaret was born June 18, 1937, in Hammond, Ind., a daughter of Paul and Theresa Schramm Benkel.
On Sept. 7, 1963, she married Carl D. Gernenz in Sauk Village, Ill.
Margaret was a member of Sons of Zebedee Parish, St. John’s Church Byron, where she was the choir director as well as the organist. She was also an organist at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home and worked at the nursing home as a dietary aide. She was also a member of the Florentine Opera Society.
Margaret enjoyed spending time wither children, grandchildren, her friends. She also enjoyed music, crafting, going on trips and doll collecting.
Survivors include two children, Cynthia Heuer and her husband, Jeffrey Sr. of Fond du Lac, and Phillip Gernenz and his wife, Amy of Coal City, Ill. Margaret is further survived by six grandchildren, Andrew, Jeffrey Jr., Joseph, Bryce, Alyssa and Abbey. Margaret is also survived by one sister, Shirley Walter and her husband, Howard of Crete, Ill., and special friend, Angelo Costronovo of West Allis.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Services: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at St. John’s Church, Byron. The Rev. James Posanski will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation: Visitation for Mrs. Gernenz will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, where a parish vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also take place from 9:30 until the time of services at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be directed to the Buttermilk Creek Music Festival or Relay for Life.
