Provvidenza (DiBella) Candela, 96, passed away peacefully at home with her family on Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998.
She was born in Grisi, Sicily, and lived for many years in the tiny town of Montelepre in the province on Palermo, Italy, before coming to the U.S. to join her husband Filippo, who helped found Grande Cheese Co. and served as its president until his death in 1980.
Mrs. Candela was honored on Grande’s 50th anniversary as “a lady without whose courage, solace and spirit, strength, support, inspiration and love, this company would not have been.”
A beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all she knew, she is survived by a son, John Candela of Fond du Lac; a daughter and son-in-law, Antoinette R. and Thomas J. Brinkman of Oshkosh; a granddaughter, Elizabeth and her husband Matthew Mollman of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a grandson Thomas J. Brinkman II, his wife Lisa and great-granddaughter Nina of Denver, Colo.; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and mother, Giuseppe and Rosalie (DiPiazza) DiBella.
Services: A liturgy of Christian Burial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St., Mary’s Catholic
Church, 645 Milwaukee St., Lomira, and simultaneously at the church in Monetelepre where she and Filippo were married.
Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., with a prayer vigil at 5:30 p.m.
For those who may wish to honor Mrs. Candela, the family has established the Provvidenza Candela Memorial.
