BOB CAVES

Funeral services for Bob Caves, 44, of W7186 Briar Court, Oakfield, Town of Byron, will be held at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at Zacherl Funeral Home, and at 2 p.m. at Oakfield High School gym.

The Rev. Donald Zerkel will officiate.  Burial will be at Avoca Cemetery, Oakfield.

Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where a parish vigil service will be held at 8:45 p.m.

Mr. Caves died Sunday, April 12, 1992, at St. Agnes Hospital, following a traffic accident.

He was born June 15, 1947, in Portage, a son of Kenneth and Dorothy Vogel Caves.  On June 7, 1975, he married Romaine Shimek at St. Nazianz.

Mr. Caves was a 1965 graduate of Mayville High School and a 1969 graduate of University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.  He received his master’s degree in guidance counseling from UW-O in 1975.

For the past 14 years, he was a guidance counselor at Oakfield High School.  Before that, he taught at Valders and Coleman High Schools.

Throughout his teaching career, Mr. Caves coached both boys and girls sports, and in 1987 took the Oakfield girls varsity basketball team to the state tournament.

He was head coach for the 1988 Wisconsin High School Girls All-Star Game and assistant coach for the 1990 all-star game.

Mr. Caves was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Oakfield, and the church council, Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, Fond du Lac County and Area Counselors Association of which he was president-elect for the 1992-93 school year, and Wisconsin School Counselors Association.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Ambra, Amanda and Anna, all at home; his parents, Kenneth Caves of Mayville and Dorothy Mularkey of Westfield; maternal grandmother, Verna Vogel of Westfield; one brother, David of Westfield; and one sister, Marsha Henkel and her husband Ron of Mayville.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.

A memorial in his name has been established.
