Ruth M. Costello, 93, formerly of 28 Eighth St., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 1996, at Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.
She was born Sept. 23, 1902, in Byron, a daughter of Michael and Mary Boyle Costello.
Miss Costello was a graduate of Fond du Lac Senior High School and University of Whitewater Normal School with a degree in business education. She was employed for two years as a teacher at Colby High School, then returned to Fond du Lac. She served as a teacher at Fond du Lac Senior High School and later Goodrich High School before her retirement. She then taught typing and shorthand at St. Mary’s Springs High School.
Miss Costello was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and the church’s Catholic Women, Irish History Club, Fond du Lac and Wisconsin Retired Teachers associations, and she served as the first woman on the board of directors at Moraine Park Technical Institute.
Survivors include 25 nieces and nephews; 69 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 71 great-great-nieces and great-great nephews.
Preceding her in death were four brothers, John, Addis, Vincent and Eugene, and one sister, Helen Ryan.
Services: Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zacherl Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church for a Liturgy of Christian Burial. The Rev. Patrick Heppe will officiate. Burial will be at St. John’s Church Cemetery in Byron.
Visitation: From 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at Zacherl Funeral Home where a parish vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorials in her name may be directed to St. Joseph’s Church.
