SYLVESTER A. “SY” SCHARF
Sylvester A. “Sy” Scharf, 82, of Spring Hill, Fla., died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at his home.
He was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Lomira, Wis., the second son of Albert and Josephine Scharf.
A graduate of Goodrich Senior High, he also attended business college in Fond du Lac.
He married Virginia “Pat” Landerman on Nov. 15, 1941, at St. Louis Church in Fond du Lac.
Sy found employment as a welder in the Milwaukee ship yards during World War II. Following the war, he started his career with Mobil Oil Corporation as a clerk in a bulk plant in Berlin, Wis. He then worked five years in Sturgeon Bay as a marketing representative and then served the district for 22 years.
He attended St. Patrick’s Church, and enjoyed golf, playing cards and spending time at the family cabin on Post Lake.
Retiring in 1978, he moved to Florida.
In addition t his wife, Virginia, survivors include one son, Jeff (Kathy) of Fond du Lac; four daughters, Sylvia of Pomona, Calif., Mary Jo of Tampa, Fla., Judy Halfman (Mike) of Horicon, Wis., and Diane Scharf (Guy Billard) of Chantilly, Va.; one brother, Franklin (Connie) of Byron, Wis.; two sisters, Monica Haeslet and Marie Jones, both of Fond du Lac; a sister-in-law, Dolores Scharf of Fond du Lac; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas in 1970.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at St. Francis Cabrini Church. Inurnment will take place at the St. John’s Cemetery, Byron, Wis., at a later date.
Arrangements were by Brewer and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Spring Hill, Fla.
